PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS

Why include Music Programming in your Classroom?

Numerous studies have shown that music can be an important and transformative activity in the lives of children and young adults - and can have remarkable impacts on the development of people who have exceptionalities. We also believe that music and music therapy should be specifically tailored to meet the needs of each student participating, and in this way are passionate about crafting programs that best fit the needs of classrooms and the students within them.

What does Music Therapy in the classroom look like?

Typically, group sessions with a music therapist in the classroom include all or most children, and are prepared to best fit the needs of the students. Individual sessions are also possible. Information about each students' strengths and goal areas should be provided beforehand in order to create meaningful and purposeful sessions. Sessions can include the following musical activities: singing, playing instruments, sensory activities, song writing and music listening. Goal areas music therapist commonly work on in Life Skills/DD classrooms include: social skills, cognition, emotional processing and control, fine motor, attention, sensory-based functions, and musical development and enjoyment.
