INDIVIDUAL MUSIC THERAPY
Who Can Benefit From Individual Music Therapy?
Our team of therapists work one-on-one with clients, to build on their strengths, and work towards communication, academic and cognitive, motor, emotional, social goals.
We work with clients of all ages, backgrounds, and diagnosis, regardless of musical background. Our team is passionate about working with autism and other pervasive development disabilities, physical disabilities, speech and language impairments, visual impairments, mental health difficult and depression and anxiety, emotional trauma and victims of abuse, geriatric and memory care, critical care, and personal growth.
How Does It Work?
Individual music therapy starts with a music therapy assessment.
Based on the assessment, as well as input from the client, their family and/or treatment team, our music therapists formulate non-musical goals and objectives for the music therapy sessions. For instance, improve articulation, increase self-esteem, or improve balance.
Our music therapists will then prepare and implement an individualized treatment plan that uses music to reach goals and encourage growth.
We continuously evaluate the client’s progress towards goals, which can be built upon or adapted throughout the course of therapy.
What happens in a session?
Our team of music therapists creatively develop session plans that best suit the strengths and needs of our clients. Session may consist of singing, playing and instrument and recreating songs, song-writing, improvisation, rhythmic based activities, imagery, listening to music, and verbal counseling.
