What is Music Therapy?


Music therapy is a discipline in which credentialed professionals use music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Music therapists use music safely and ethically to address human needs within cognitive, communicative, emotional, musical, physical, social, and spiritual domains.

MTA stands for Music TherapistMTA stands for Music Therapist Accredited, and is the professional designation for music therapists who have completed the certification process which includes a university music therapy program, a 1000 hour internship, and the passing of a board exam. MTAs maintain their designation by adhering strict;y to ethical guidelines, and maintaining their clinical musician and therapeutically through continuing education.
